Whether you work in a small workplace or large, a private sector job or in the public service you can join a union. From diverse backgrounds and walks of life, today almost one third of all workers in BC belong to a union.

The Basics

Last year, more than 4,600 workers in British Columbia joined a union. You can learn more about the basics involved for these workers to unionize and workers like you who may be interested in making the same choice.

Union Myths & Realities

We work 40 hours a week because unions periodically went on strike for a shorter workweek. Many of us will receive pensions from our employers when we retire because unions went on strike for that benefit too. And pay equity provisions have recently been added to many workers' benefits, largely because their unions fought for it.
